Five Effective Website Development Tips For a Good Web Design :P

1. Create a Custom 404 Page
It is essential that you should customize "404 File Not Found" page to be something helpful and friendly for you and your website visitors. Imagine once in a while your website visitors make mistakes in spelling when typing your website address, have you provided them another way to go back to your website? Simply offering them with a "Page Not Found" error message will not sufficient and friendly to them. What is even worse, you might lose the website traffic from that visitor forever. To make your error page friendlier to visitors, it is a good idea to add a sitemap or search along with information letting them know the file they requested is not available.

2. Redirect Visitors from Non-www. to www.
Some lazy web surfers will often omit the "www" when they are typing a URL address to visitor your website. If you do not set up redirects automatically to redirects the non-www version of your domain to the version with www, then you will lose website traffic. To increase your website traffic and maintain a top ranking, is necessary to make both these two URLs will link to your website.

3. Slice your web graphic properly
Properly designed web graphic and image will enhance your website's overall look and feel. In addition, if the graphic within each page are properly defined, your web pages will load quicker because they do not require the web browser to re-size them. Properly sized and defined images can reduce the web browser workload and speed up the page loading time. Properly developed website graphics will help create a website's overall look and feel and encourage a customer to stay or leave.

4. Add a Favicon to your website
A Favicon is a little custom icon that shows up next to a website URL in the address bar of a web browser. It will also appear in a bookmark list, that is to say, if someone bookmarks your website or add your website into "Favorites" menu, it will associates a particular icon with your website in the bookmark. If the user opens up the "favorites" folder, it will be the icon used for the link to your site, which enhances your website's professionalism.

5. Enable RSS Auto-Discovery
RSS auto-discovery is a technique which provides an opportunity for browsers and other software to detect the RSS feed of a website. If you include an RSS feed in your website and also enable this technique, then many browsers and RSS readers will be able to find out that there is an RSS feed available in your website. Therefore, it will help you to alert your website visitor to subscribe your website and visit your website frequently when there is any update to your website.

A clean layout that uses a lot of white space enhances a site's look and readability. The layout should also keep the focus on your content. Use fonts that will be available on all computers to prevent your site looking messed up. We recommend the use of dreamweaver templates for website design consistency.
